Job Title: Operational Designated Safeguarding Lead
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Salary: £36,317.80
Contract: Full time, part time, term time: 37 hours per week - 44 weeks a year (38 weeks term time + 6 weeks)
Start date: September 2024
Teaching Personnel are working with one of our partner secondary schools who are looking to appoint a new Designated Safeguarding Lead for the new academic term starting September 2024.
Job Purposes:
The Operational Safeguarding Lead will assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters of safeguarding and child protection across the school.
They will take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment and support of children.
They will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters and will liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority, police and health partners.
The Operational Safeguarding Lead will contribute to assessment, planning and intervention for families and will work in partnership with parents and children providing practical, hands on support, information, advice and guidance covering a range of issues. This will also include signposting to relevant agencies to further support the family.
The Operational Safeguarding Lead will liaise with all other colleagues who contribute to the comprehensive care of pupils especially staff in the pastoral, behaviour and welfare teams in ensuring robust and coordinated advocacy for the child.
The Operational Safeguarding Lead will be responsible for sustaining and monitoring academy safeguarding records ensuring information is recorded in accordance with school policies and procedures. They will analyse this information and corresponding data in determining effective decision making for swift intervention.
The Operational Safeguarding Lead will be expected to have a thorough understanding of the procedures implemented by the Northamptonshire Children’s Trust and to work in accordance with these expectations. The Operational Safeguarding Lead will make all reasonable attempts to understand the contextual risks
What skills and experience we're looking for
We require an enthusiastic and highly committed person who will ideally:
Have experience of working with young people aged 11-19 in a secondary school
Worked as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead previously
Hold a current DSL Tier 3 certificate
Have experience of Early Help Assessment process
Experience of record keeping systems for safeguarding
Awareness of national and local trends in safeguarding
Have a connection with young people and can help them feel safe
Hold young people in high esteem and communicate that through the way they treat them
Have a willingness to undertake further work-related training
Have good ICT skills or be willing to learn (including using Microsoft Word and Excel)
Have knowledge and understanding of strategies to overcome barriers to learning, and knowledge of working with multi agencies
Have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team
Good organisation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
Be willing to undertake first aid training
Have a commitment to inclusion
Help foster a culture of high expectations
Have a commitment to the school’s ethos and vision
Be able to establish strong relationships with students and staff
Model professional standards across all areas of work.

The Operational Designated Safeguarding Lead will work under the leadership of the Vice Principal for Pastoral. The successful person will play a vital role in contributing to the culture, ethos and wellbeing of the whole Academy, by working closely with families to remove student barriers to learning and/or supporting students classified as CIN or CP.
