What do Attendance Mentors do?
As an Attendance Mentor, you'll be at the forefront of the Department for Education's Attendance Mentor programme, making a tangible difference in the lives of pupils and families. Your responsibilities will include:
Develop a trusting, honest relationship with pupils and providing emotional support
Work closely with the pupils and families to identify drivers of their poor attendance
Support absent pupils in getting back into the classroom
Act as a positive role model to improve pupils' attitudes towards attendance and learning.
Listen carefully to pupils and help them gain insight and self-awareness.
Provide targeted support in line with existing care plans.
Help mentees access new networks including extracurricular activities and other support
Make referrals to external specialists services if required.
Monitor progress, provide feedback and celebrate successes with the pupils.
Available training for Attendance Mentors
As an attendance mentor, you will have access to a range of training and support, including a one-day training course authored by our award winning mental health and wellbeing partner Thrive.

Developmental Model
The Thrive developmental model training ensures Mentors understand
how young people develop socially and emotionally, and are able to identify and
develop age-appropriate attitudes and behaviours so that young people are ready
to attend school and engage in learning.
Supporting all the
Pupil's Needs
In addition to Safeguarding as standard, Teaching Personnel runs regular CPD ideal for Teaching Assistants, Teachers and Mentors including workshops on adopting a trauma informed approach, providing practical approaches for working with your pupils.
