SEN Teaching Assistants

The role:

As a Teaching Assistant in our primary SEN school, you will play an essential role in providing tailored support to children with a range of additional needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities. Working closely with the class teacher and other professionals, you will help create a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment, ensuring each child feels supported, valued, and encouraged in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist the teacher in delivering lessons, providing one-on-one or small group support to children who need extra help with their learning and development.
  • Personalised Care: Support children with their personal care, feeding, and mobility needs, ensuring their well-being throughout the school day.
  • Learning Engagement: Help students engage with learning activities by using creative and adapted approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement personalised learning plans, behavioural strategies, and care protocols.
  • Foster Independence: Encourage children to develop independence, confidence, and social skills, helping them grow both academically and personally.
  • Safeguarding: Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

About you:

  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable, though not essential. A compassionate and patient approach is key.
  • Caring and Positive Attitude: A nurturing, calm, and positive attitude, with a passion for helping children overcome challenges.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Flexibility in working with children of different abilities, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit their individual needs.
  • Team Player: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
  • Willingness to Learn: A proactive approach to learning new skills and strategies for supporting children with SEN.
