Location: Northfield / Selly Oak
Pay: £12.92 - 15.38 an hour
Do you have experience supporting young people in educational or support settings? Are you skilled in managing challenging behaviour? Are you passionate about fostering positive mental health and wellbeing in primary school children?
Teaching Personnel is partnering with primary schools in Birmingham to provide expert SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) support across KS1 and KS2. This dynamic role offers a fast-paced, pastoral-focused environment where no two days are the same.
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students in small groups or on a 1:1 basis, supporting those with SEMH needs. You’ll also collaborate with students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) to promote positive wellbeing, engagement, and school attendance.
Your responsibilities will include tracking each student’s academic, emotional, and social progress, with regular meetings to discuss developments. You will be integral to maintaining a positive and supportive environment that fosters student success, and your mentoring approach will play a key role in ensuring students thrive both socially and academically.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students with SEMH needs, offering guidance on behaviour, school attendance, and emotional wellbeing.
- Work with small groups and on a 1:1 basis to develop positive relationships and mentor students.
- Track and report on students' emotional, social, and academic progress.
- Promote a positive school atmosphere, reinforcing the importance of good behaviour and mental health.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
Essential Requirements:
- An up-to-date and clear DBS (Teaching Personnel can assist with this).
- A committed and empathetic attitude towards supporting students.
- Strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students and school staff.
- Experience in SEND, youth support, sports coaching, or pastoral care.
- Team Teach trained (preferred but not essential).
- Experience in behaviour management and conflict resolution.
This position is perfect for individuals with a background in education, youth support, or sports coaching, who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners. As a full-time role, you must be available Monday to Friday from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm during term time.
