SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Opportunity in Levenshulme
Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated “Good” secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time role begins in December and will extend through the academic year, with a potential for a permanent position depending on performance. Weekly pay for this role is £419.25 - £500.
Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing targeted support to students with special educational needs, ensuring they have the tools and encouragement they need to thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. Working closely with teachers and the SENCO, you will help students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their educational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- One-to-One Support: Provide individualized assistance to students with SEN, helping them to understand and engage with classroom activities. This may include clarifying instructions, breaking down tasks, and assisting with sensory or behavioral needs.
- Small Group Intervention: Lead or support small group sessions focused on literacy, numeracy, social skills, or emotional regulation. Foster a supportive environment to help students gain confidence and develop essential skills.
- Classroom Integration: Assist students within the main classroom setting, helping them engage with peers and follow lesson plans, ensuring they feel included and empowered to participate actively.
- Behavioral Support: Implement strategies to support students in managing emotions and behavior, reinforcing positive habits and setting clear boundaries to encourage respectful and productive interactions.
- Adaptation of Learning Materials: Modify or adapt learning resources to meet individual needs, ensuring that each student can access the curriculum at an appropriate level.
- Progress Tracking and Reporting: Record and monitor students' progress, providing feedback to the SENCO, teachers, and occasionally parents. Contribute to individual education plans (IEPs) by sharing observations and suggesting new approaches.
- Encouragement and Positive Reinforcement: Foster a positive, nurturing relationship with students to build their confidence, resilience, and motivation. Celebrate achievements and milestones, no matter how small.
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Uphold safeguarding practices to protect student welfare, identifying and addressing any concerns promptly and appropriately according to school protocols.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience in SEN Support: Prior experience working with SEN students, whether in a similar role or a supportive environment, is highly desirable.
- Adaptable and Patient: Demonstrates flexibility and patience, adapting quickly to meet individual student needs and offering support in a calm and understanding manner.
- Strong Communication Skills: Able to engage with students, teachers, and parents, and effectively communicate strategies and progress.
- Organized and Observant: Keeps thorough records of student progress and adjusts strategies based on observations and feedback.
- Team Player: Works collaboratively with school staff, including the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff, to provide a consistent and well-coordinated approach.
- Safeguarding Knowledge: A sound understanding of safeguarding practices, promoting a safe and supportive environment for all students.
Position Details:
- Start Date: December
- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
- Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week
- Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.
