SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Stockport. This full-time position is available to start ASAP and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential to become a permanent role based on performance. The pay ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview

This position is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for supporting young people’s mental health and well-being in an educational setting. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work with students who face a range of social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them engage with learning and achieve their full potential.

You will collaborate closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external support services to create a nurturing environment that promotes positive emotional and academic development.

Key Responsibilities

  • One-to-One Support: Work closely with individual students who may require targeted intervention to help manage their emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Small Group Work: Lead small intervention groups focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and building resilience.
  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in the classroom by encouraging positive behaviour, supporting learning activities, and helping students stay engaged.
  • Developing Personalised Strategies: Help implement and develop personalised support plans for students, working with staff to ensure that individual needs are met.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in managing challenging behaviour and promoting a calm and productive learning environment.
  • Pastoral Care: Act as a key contact for students needing additional emotional support, fostering trusting relationships.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track and report on student progress, identifying areas for further support and development.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in Supporting Children or Young People with SEMH Needs (Desirable): This could include experience in a school, youth work, or similar settings.
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Adaptability and Resilience: A calm and patient approach, with the ability to manage a range of situations and respond to student needs effectively.
  • A Passion for Supporting Mental Health and Well-Being: A commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
  • Relevant Qualifications (Desirable): Background in psychology, counselling, youth work, or education is a plus but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
