HLTA – SEN Teaching Assistant

 

Location: Preston, PR1
Type: Full-time, Part-Time, Permanent positions
Start Date: As soon as possible

 

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with experience in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to join our vibrant school community in Preston.

 

As an HLTA, you will be expected to take on a leadership role within the classroom, providing targeted support to children with SEN, and assisting the class teacher in the delivery of lessons. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Leading small group and 1:1 interventions for students with SEN, tailoring support to their individual needs.
  • Supporting the class teacher in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lessons, ensuring accessibility for all learners.
  • Monitoring and tracking student progress, adjusting support strategies where necessary to ensure continued development.
  • Managing classroom behaviour, creating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages learning and personal growth.
  • Liaising with other professionals, including SENCOs, teachers, and external agencies to ensure effective support is in place.
  • Supporting students' social and emotional development, helping them to develop self-confidence and independence.

What We’re Looking For:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent is essential, with a clear understanding of SEN.
  • Experience working with children with a range of learning needs, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and behavioural difficulties.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with a passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.
  • Knowledge of current SEN legislation and best practices.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within an educational setting is desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
