About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher for an exciting opportunity at a well-regarded secondary school in Levenshulme, Manchester. This full-time, long-term position will start in September and will be to cover a long-term absence in the English department. The school is committed to providing a high standard of education, with a focus on inclusivity, academic excellence, and student wellbeing.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the ability to engage students and inspire a love of language and literature. ECTs and experienced teachers are both encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the needs of students at KS3 and KS4.

  • Develop and deliver a varied and challenging curriculum that inspires student interest and fosters academic success.

  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to ensure all students are supported in their learning.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and independent thinking.

  • Prepare students for GCSE English assessments, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for success.

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the English department to share best practices and contribute to the development of the curriculum.

  • Participate in extracurricular activities, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.

  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and provide a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • A degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject.

  • Experience teaching English in a secondary school setting, with a strong understanding of the KS3 and KS4 curriculum.

  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for inspiring students in English.

  • Strong communication, organisational, and planning skills.

  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
