About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a highly regarded secondary school in Levenshulme, Manchester. This is a full-time position starting after Easter to cover a long-term absence. The school is known for its inclusive environment, commitment to academic excellence, and strong English department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and well-structured English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of teaching Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The role will involve fostering a love for literature, language, and critical thinking while ensuring students develop strong literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons following the national curriculum.

  • Teach a range of texts, including modern and classic literature, poetry, and non-fiction.

  • Develop students’ analytical, reading, and writing skills to support their academic progress.

  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.

  • Prepare students for GCSE examinations, providing guidance on exam techniques and coursework.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, delivering constructive feedback to support learning and development.

  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages discussion, debate, and creative expression.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the English department to enhance curriculum delivery.

  • Contribute to extra-curricular activities, such as creative writing clubs, debating societies, or theatre trips.

  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and carers regarding progress and achievement.

  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to providing high-quality education.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching English at Key Stages 3 and 4 (experience with Key Stage 5 is desirable but not essential).

  • Strong subject knowledge of English literature and language.

  • A passion for teaching and the ability to inspire students to develop a love for reading and writing.

  • Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
