Job Description:

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a secondary school in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the quality of education during teacher absences by delivering pre-prepared lessons and ensuring that students remain focused and engaged in their learning. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with young people and are looking to gain valuable experience in a school environment, perhaps as a stepping stone towards a teaching career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes in the absence of a regular teacher, ensuring that students remain on task with the work set.
  • Manage the behaviour of students to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures, including those related to behaviour management and safeguarding.
  • Support students with their learning and address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Assist with the distribution and collection of resources and materials needed for lessons.
  • Report back to the regular teacher on student behaviour and progress during the covered lessons.
  • Be a role model for students, promoting the school’s values and expectations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with young people in a school or similar setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Confidence in delivering pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in different classroom settings and year groups.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
