Teaching Personnel are working closely with a passionate secondary school in the Portsmouth area who are seeking a cover supervisor to join their team full time from October.

This secondary school, located in the vibrant city of Portsmouth, is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging educational experience for all students.

They pride themselves on their strong sense of community, high academic standards, and dedication to the holistic development of their students. Staff are at the heart of their success and they are looking for a talented Cover Supervisor who shares their commitment to excellence.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of students' education in the absence of their regular teacher. You will be responsible for presenting pre-planned lessons and ensuring a positive and productive classroom environment. No marking is required, allowing you to focus solely on delivering quality instruction and maintaining classroom order.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Management: Maintain a well-ordered classroom environment that supports effective learning. Manage student behaviour in line with school policies, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere.

  • Delivering Lessons: Present pre-planned lessons to classes across various subjects, following the provided materials and ensuring students remain engaged and focused on their work.

  • Support Learning: Assist students in understanding and completing their assigned tasks, providing clarification and support as needed. Ensure all students have access to the necessary resources to complete their work.

  • Attendance and Reporting: Take attendance at the start of each lesson and report any absences or issues to the relevant staff members. Ensure any incidents or concerns are documented and communicated appropriately.

  • Liaise with Teaching Staff: Collaborate with other teaching staff to ensure a seamless transition between lessons and provide feedback on student progress and behaviour during cover sessions.

  • Adaptability: Be prepared to cover a range of subjects and year groups, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to engage with students across the school.

  • Emergency Procedures: Be familiar with the school’s emergency and health and safety procedures, and ensure that students understand and follow these guidelines.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor or in a similar role within a secondary school environment is essential. Experience in managing classrooms and working with young people is highly valued.

  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students quickly. Excellent organisational and time management skills are also essential.

  • Qualities: A calm, patient, and confident manner with the ability to maintain order and discipline. The ideal candidate will be proactive, resilient, and able to handle challenging situations effectively.

  • Knowledge: A good understanding of the secondary school curriculum and the ability to deliver lessons across a variety of subjects. Familiarity with school safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Commitment: A dedication to supporting the school’s ethos and a genuine passion for working with young people. A commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn and adapt.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
