Job Opportunity: Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisor (Alternative Provision)
Location: Liverpool
Hours: Full-Time (Monday to Friday)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and passionate Teaching Assistant (TA) or Cover Supervisor to join a dedicated team in an Alternative Provision setting in Liverpool. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) or similar environments, demonstrating a strong ability to manage behaviour and support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, and complex trauma backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN, SEMH, and trauma-related needs.
  • Assist in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for students.
  • Deliver high-quality learning support, including managing small groups or supervising whole classes in the absence of the teacher.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively to encourage positive learning behaviours.
  • Foster strong, trusting relationships with students, understanding and responding to their individual needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to support student progress.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a PRU, Alternative Provision, or similar setting.
  • Expertise in behaviour management and supporting students with complex needs.
  • A solid understanding of SEN, SEMH, and trauma-informed practices.
  • A flexible, resilient, and compassionate approach to working with vulnerable students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or behaviour management.
  • Additional training in trauma-informed approaches or de-escalation techniques.
  • A proven ability to engage hard-to-reach learners and build rapport.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
