SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can truly make a difference in the lives of children? A small and inclusive special school in the Winchester area is currently seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and welcoming team.
The school caters for children aged 4 to 11 years with a range of complex needs, including moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, and speech, language and communication needs and physical disabilities. The dedicated staff team works closely to create a nurturing, structured and inclusive environment where each child is supported to thrive both academically and emotionally.
The school was rated “Good” by Ofsted, with inspectors praising the high-quality care, skilled staff, and the positive, engaging learning environment. Pupils are happy, safe, and encouraged to reach their full potential through tailored learning approaches, therapeutic support, and close collaboration with families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing one-to-one or small group support for pupils with additional needs
- Assisting the class teacher with the preparation and delivery of lessons
- Supporting children with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
- Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Contributing to the development and implementation of individual learning plans
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable but not essential
- A calm, patient and empathetic approach
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- A valid DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one at own cost before starting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
