Learning Support Assistant

A small and inclusive special school in the Winchester area is currently looking to appoint a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join its supportive and welcoming team.

The school provides education and care for children aged 4 to 11 years with a wide range of complex needs, including moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, speech, language and communication needs, and physical disabilities. Staff work closely together to create a calm, nurturing, and structured environment where every child is supported to flourish both academically and emotionally.

In its most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was rated “Good”, with inspectors highlighting the high level of care, the dedication of staff, and the positive, purposeful atmosphere. Pupils feel safe, are well supported, and enjoy a personalised approach to learning, built on strong relationships and close collaboration with families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing one-to-one or small group support tailored to pupils’ individual needs
• Assisting teachers in preparing and delivering engaging, accessible lessons
• Supporting children in developing communication, social and emotional skills
• Encouraging independence and promoting positive behaviour
• Helping to implement and review individual learning plans
• Working alongside teachers, therapists, and other support staff as part of a multidisciplinary team

The School is Looking For Someone Who:

• Has experience supporting children with special educational needs (desirable, but not essential)
• Brings a calm, patient, and compassionate approach
• Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
• Holds a current DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one prior to starting (at own cost)
