Teaching Assistant
Job description
A forward-thinking special school in the Basingstoke area is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated and dynamic team.
The school supports students aged 11 to 19 with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, and associated learning difficulties. Pupils benefit from a structured, supportive environment designed to meet their individual needs and help them develop both academically and personally, with a strong emphasis on building confidence, independence and life skills.
In its most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was rated “Good”, with inspectors praising the strong, respectful relationships between staff and pupils, the calm and consistent routines, and the real progress made by students. Staff are highly committed and work together to provide a safe, nurturing space where every learner is valued and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing individual or small group support to pupils in and outside the classroom
- Assisting teaching staff with lesson preparation, classroom organisation and behaviour management
- Supporting students with emotional regulation, communication and social interaction
- Promoting independence, positive behaviour and resilience
- Helping to implement and review individual education and behaviour plans
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff as part of a multidisciplinary team
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with young people with SEN or SEMH needs (desirable but not essential)
- Be calm, patient, and understanding in their approach
- Be an excellent communicator and a reliable team player
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people
- Hold a valid DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one before starting (at own cost)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
