Job Advert: Teaching Assistant – SEN (SEMH & Behaviour Support – Term Time Only, Monday to Friday, Weekly Pay)
Location: Basingstoke Area

We are seeking two dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join the dynamic team at a special educational needs (SEN) school in the Basingstoke area. This school specialises in supporting students with behavioural challenges and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, helping them to manage behaviour, build emotional resilience, and achieve personal and academic growth.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students' learning, development, and wellbeing. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create a positive, structured, and inclusive environment that fosters progress, confidence, and self-regulation. The school offers a nurturing atmosphere where students feel safe, respected, and supported.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with a range of SEN needs, particularly SEMH and behavioural challenges.

  • Assist in delivering tailored lesson plans and activities that meet students' individual learning and emotional development goals.

  • Support students in managing their behaviour and emotions, using appropriate and consistent behaviour management strategies.

  • Foster positive, trusting relationships with students to help build confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.

  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

  • Help create a calm and structured classroom setting that encourages emotional stability and academic progress.

  • Assist with personal care when required.


Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly SEMH and challenging behaviours (preferred but not essential).

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with young people.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

  • A commitment to helping students develop both academically and emotionally.

  • Ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour effectively and sensitively.


Additional Requirements:

  • All candidates must have or be willing to obtain an enhanced child DBS clearance on the Update Service.
