SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunity – Providing Consistent, Caring Support for a Year 1 Child

Are you passionate about helping children with special educational needs thrive in a mainstream primary school? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Crawley is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide consistent, tailored 1:1 support to a Year 1 child with autism and behavioural challenges.

About the Role

You’ll be instrumental in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that supports the child’s emotional, social, and academic development. Key responsibilities include:

  • Consistency: Providing a dependable presence to foster trust and stability for the child.
  • Self-Regulation Support: Using tailored interventions to help the child manage emotions and behaviours.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to ensure a unified approach to the child’s development.
  • Encouraging Inclusion: Supporting the child’s participation in mainstream classroom activities while addressing their specific needs.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs in a mainstream setting. You will:

  • Have experience supporting children with autism and behavioural needs, particularly in a primary school setting.
  • Understand the importance of consistency in providing emotional security and behavioural progress.
  • Be skilled in behaviour management and self-regulation techniques, maintaining a calm and structured approach.
  • Demonstrate a firm but nurturing attitude, building trust and offering reassurance to the child.
  • Be committed to fostering confidence, independence, and positive engagement in learning.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a child-only enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
