SEN Teaching Assistant Opportunity – Year 1 Support (Crawley)

Location: Crawley
Position: Full-Time, SEN Teaching Assistant (Year 1)


About the Role

A warm and inclusive primary school in Crawley is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 child with autism and behavioural difficulties. This role focuses on assisting with self-regulation, maintaining good behaviour control, and fostering the child’s social, emotional, and academic development.

You will play a key role in:

  • Supporting the child with consistent, tailored interventions to aid their self-regulation and engagement.
  • Using effective behaviour management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Working closely with parents to ensure a unified approach between home and school.
  • Promoting a balance of firmness and care, building trust and providing the child with a sense of stability.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with autism and behavioural difficulties.
  • Be skilled in behaviour management and helping children self-regulate in a calm and structured manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with parents, ensuring consistent strategies and communication.
  • Possess a firm but nurturing approach, creating a supportive and safe environment for the child.
  • Show a strong commitment to fostering the child’s confidence, independence, and progress.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a child-only enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 tailored support for a Year 1 child with autism and behavioural needs.
  • Assist with regulation strategies, ensuring the child feels supported and understood.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualized plans.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, sharing progress and aligning strategies.
  • Foster a positive classroom experience that encourages growth and development.
