SEMH Teaching Assistant Position

 

Location: Lancing, West Sussex

Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Contract Type: Full-Time

Start Date: 2nd September 2024

The Role:

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our teachers and support staff to provide high-quality education and care to our students. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and is committed to helping them overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to the individual needs of students.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students, using positive behaviour management strategies to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help with the preparation of classroom materials and resources.
  • Supervise students during break times and other activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and other support strategies.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to student reports.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature, with a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond to the changing needs of the school environment.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) is desirable but not essential.
