Job Advert: Teacher of SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health)
Location: Northampton
Salary: £30,000-£40,000 plus company benefits
Start Date: January 2025 (or sooner)
Contract Type: Permanent
A highly reputable and well-established Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of SEMH to join their Alternative Provision based in Northampton on a permanent basis starting from January 2025 or sooner.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing tailored educational support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the needs of students with SEMH difficulties.
- Foster a supportive and empathetic classroom atmosphere that encourages personal and academic growth.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals including teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and therapists.
- Develop and implement individualised learning plans (ILPs) to cater to each student’s specific needs.
- Manage challenging behaviours in a positive, constructive manner and maintain a calm, structured learning environment.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary.
- Support the emotional wellbeing of students and help them develop coping strategies for everyday challenges.
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs, ideally in an Alternative Provision or SEN setting.
- Strong understanding of effective behaviour management strategies tailored to SEMH students.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students with complex needs, fostering resilience and positive outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Dedication to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable students.
- Experience working with multi-agency teams to support students’ educational and emotional development.
Desirable:
- Additional qualifications or training related to SEN/SEMH.
- Experience of delivering bespoke or vocational qualifications suited to Alternative Provision learners.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
