English Specialist Cover Supervisor – Full-Time Role
Location: Stockport
Contract: Full-time, starting ASAP until the end of the academic year
Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week

Teaching Personnel is offering an exciting opportunity for an English Specialist Cover Supervisor to join a well-regarded secondary school in Stockport. Rated Good by Ofsted, the school is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide support within the English department and cover lessons across various subjects when necessary. This is an excellent role for English graduates or individuals with a strong passion for the subject, looking to gain practical classroom experience.

The Role:

As an English Specialist Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising English lessons in the absence of the regular teacher. You will ensure that students stay on task, engage with the pre-prepared lesson plans, and maintain a productive learning environment. While planning and marking work will not be part of your role, you will play a vital role in guiding students and supporting their learning. Additionally, you may be required to cover lessons in other subjects when needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising English lessons and ensuring students follow the pre-set work.
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies.
  • Supporting students’ learning, providing assistance and answering questions where necessary.
  • Encouraging positive student participation and maintaining a focus on learning.
  • Reporting on lesson progress, student engagement, and any incidents to the relevant teaching staff.
  • Covering lessons in other subjects when required, ensuring a smooth learning experience across different subject areas.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject.
  • Has a strong passion for the subject and a desire to inspire students.
  • Is confident in managing classroom behaviour and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Is adaptable and can work across various year groups and subjects as needed.
  • Has experience working with young people (in schools, tutoring, mentoring, or other settings), although training will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
