Science Intervention Specialist – Full-Time Role in Denton, Tameside

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Science Intervention Specialist to support an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Denton, Tameside. This full-time position starts in December and continues through the academic year, with a potential for permanent placement based on performance. Weekly pay is between £419.25 and £500.

Role Overview:

As a Science Intervention Specialist, you’ll play a crucial role in helping students reach their science learning goals by offering targeted academic support in biology, chemistry, and physics. Working closely with the Science Department, you’ll provide focused instruction to students who need extra assistance, aiming to bridge gaps in knowledge, build confidence, and improve academic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Targeted Science Interventions: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional help in science subjects, focusing on key topics and addressing specific learning needs.
  • Collaborative Curriculum Planning: Work with science teachers to plan and implement interventions that complement the standard curriculum, helping students master essential concepts.
  • Monitor and Track Progress: Conduct regular assessments to measure student progress, adapting intervention techniques based on assessment results to maximize learning outcomes.
  • Exam Preparation Support: Assist students in preparing for upcoming exams by reinforcing content knowledge, practicing exam techniques, and reducing test-related anxieties.
  • Create Engaging Learning Resources: Develop and use customized resources that make complex scientific concepts more accessible, enabling students to better understand and retain content.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages students, boosting their confidence and interest in science.
  • Classroom Management Assistance: Help maintain a focused and orderly environment during interventions, creating a conducive space for learning.
  • Communicate Progress and Feedback: Regularly update students, teachers, and parents on individual progress, providing constructive feedback and setting goals for continued improvement.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Science Specialisation: Degree in a science subject (biology, chemistry, or physics) is required.
  • Previous Tutoring or Intervention Experience: Experience in tutoring or supporting students in an educational setting is highly valued.
  • Clear Communication Skills: Ability to explain scientific concepts in an understandable, relatable manner.
  • Organised and Motivated: Skilled at planning sessions, managing time efficiently, and implementing effective learning strategies.
  • Collaborative: Willingness to work with the Science Department to design and deliver effective interventions.
