Join Our Team as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) at a Primary Pupil Referral Unit in Salford
Teaching Personnel is excited to be working in partnership with a Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Salford. This specialist setting provides vital support to young students facing significant challenges with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. At this PRU, each child is given the care, attention, and tailored support they need to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our dedicated team. This role will see you working closely with students who may experience anxiety, depression, and other SEMH challenges, including those who are at risk of self-harm. A Team Teach qualification is highly desirable, as the role involves helping to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all.
About the Role:
- Location: Primary Pupil Referral Unit in Salford
- Rate: Starting from £84+ per day, paid directly via PAYE, with no hidden fees or umbrella schemes
- Schedule: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm), with part-time options available
- Start Date: Immediate start following registration
- Contract: Long-term placements with pathways to transition into permanent roles
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualised Student Support: Provide tailored one-on-one and group support, creating a safe, welcoming space where students feel understood and valued.
- Nurturing Environment: Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes each student’s social, emotional, and academic growth.
- Collaborative Care: Work alongside teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement personalised support plans addressing each student's unique needs.
- Resilience Building: Help students develop effective coping strategies and resilience skills to manage emotions and behaviour constructively.
- Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate and confidential records of students’ progress, behaviour, and emotional well-being, ensuring their journeys are well-documented and supported.
- Relationship Building: Build strong, trusting relationships with students, reinforcing their sense of belonging and self-worth.
- Behavioural Support: Use behavioural intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their behaviours positively, creating a safe space for all.
- Academic Support: Assist with students' academic progress by supporting their engagement in learning activities, particularly in foundational skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Team Teach Qualification (Highly Desirable): Experience or certification in Team Teach or similar positive handling training is a strong advantage.
- Excellent Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect effectively with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
- Empathy and Resilience: A deep sense of empathy, patience, and resilience to support students through challenging behaviours and situations.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the holistic care and development of students.
- Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the students and the PRU.
- Relevant Experience: Experience in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is advantageous, though a genuine passion and commitment are key.
- Safeguarding: This role requires an Enhanced DBS check to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
