Job description

What is outreach tuition?

I am looking for motivational tutors to support young people in Canvey Island and surrounding areas. I work closely with Local Authorities to support young people with SEN and SEMH needs, who struggle to access mainstream school.

Our educators need to be passionate about supporting young people on a 1:1 basis; creating a safe and judgement – free zone, where they feel confident in their learning. We deliver tuition with the aim of bridging gaps in their learning, boosting their confidence by providing a bespoke personalised tuition programme.

Our outreach tuition is effectively in place to provide an alternative education offer, other than school as this is often inaccessible for them. This means that most of our tuition takes place during school hours.

Our tutor roles involve:

  • Planning your own tuition sessions in English and Maths, following the UK curriculum at a KS3 Level.
  • Creating stimulating resources tailored towards individual learners’ abilities, needs and interests.
  • Delivering sessions on a 1:1 or group basis, in learners’ homes, care homes or local libraries.
  • Generating Ed Place Assessments to gauge learners’ current levels and identify gaps in their understanding.
  • Using our reporting platform (LEAP) to record sessions, monitor progress and attendance.
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns to your Teaching Personnel consultant.

You must:

  • Have at least 2 years’ experience, teaching the UK curriculum.
  • Be able to plan sessions and create resources independently.
  • Have experience working with young people with SEN or SEMH needs.
  • Build a rapport with young people to create a safe learning environment and a holistic approach to learning.

Benefits of Teaching Personnel:

  • You will have you own dedicated consultant helping you to find your perfect role, and support you.
  • We offer highly competitive rates of up to £30 per hour.
  • You will gain exclusive access to our CPD Academy.
  • Flexible work schedule means you get to be in charge of your own timetable, accepting as much as a little work as you’d like!

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
