Behaviour Mentor – Secondary School
Location: Tameside
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £85 - £100 per day, depending on experience
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and proactive Behaviour Mentor to support students at a dynamic secondary school in the Tameside area. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in education, youth work, or social care who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Tailored Support: Work closely with students who exhibit challenging behaviour, offering one-to-one and small group mentoring sessions to help them develop positive behaviour patterns and coping strategies.
- Implement Behaviour Interventions: Design and deliver targeted interventions aimed at improving students’ behaviour, attendance, and engagement in school activities. Use restorative approaches to resolve conflicts and promote positive relationships.
- Build Strong Relationships: Establish trusting and supportive relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and mentor. Encourage and motivate students to engage fully with their education and build their self-esteem.
- Collaborate with School Staff: Work alongside teachers, the pastoral team, and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to create and implement personalised behaviour support plans. Attend staff meetings and contribute to discussions around student welfare and behaviour management.
- Liaise with Parents and External Agencies: Maintain regular communication with parents, carers, and relevant external agencies, such as social services and educational psychologists, to ensure a holistic approach to supporting each student’s needs.
- Monitor and Report on Progress: Keep detailed records of student progress and behaviour, providing regular feedback to school staff and parents. Adapt support strategies as needed based on ongoing assessment and feedback.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or social care setting is essential. Experience in managing challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and manage challenging situations effectively. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are also important.
- Attributes: A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. A genuine passion for supporting young people and a commitment to promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing.
- Knowledge: Understanding of safeguarding policies and practices is essential. A relevant qualification in education, youth work, or social care is desirable but not mandatory.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
