Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with mental health challenges? We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, empathetic, and committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning in a nurturing and structured environment.

We are looking for a Primary School Teaching Assistant who is committed to creating a positive, nurturing, and engaging environment for young students. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to educate, encourage their creativity, and help them build the skills they need to succeed both in and outside the classroom.

Your Role:

As a Learning Support Worker, you’ll be responsible for Preparing and assisting the Teacher, and Independently taking groups of children to complete activities, whilst helping with tasks within the classroom. You will provide a caring and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels safe, valued, and excited to learn.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide tailored support to students experiencing mental health difficulties, helping them to engage in learning and build confidence.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to create a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Offer emotional and behavioural support, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, providing a listening ear and a consistent, reassuring presence.
  • Support students in small group settings or on a one-to-one basis, as required.
  • Assisting, fun, and educational lessons across all subjects ‍
  • Supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of each child
  • Completing group tasks with children independently
  • Collaborating with the leading teacher to provide the best educational standard achievable
  • Supporting a stimulating classroom environment where children are encouraged to explore and grow
  • Communicating effectively with parents and carers to support student progress, when needed

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or adults with Mental Health needs, Additional Learning Needs (ALN), or in a pastoral/support role is highly desirable. We find those with a background in mental health support or youth work thrive in this environment.
  • A patient, calm, and understanding nature, with the ability to build trust with students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to different situations.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant Diploma) are desirable but not essential.
  • Enthusiastic, creative, and passionate about teaching young children.
  • Experienced in educational background preferred but not essential.
  • Patient, caring, and able to nurture the potential of every student.
  • A positive role model who can build strong relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • A team player who is open to new ideas and enjoys collaborating with others.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
