Sport Coach Transitioning into Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor Role

Position: Full-Time SEND Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor
Start Date: January 2024
Location: Chester/Ellesmere Port
Salary: £85-£95
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Sport Coach who is eager to transition into an educational setting as a Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor in our client Secondary school. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children, setting a positive example and supporting students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with children, providing 1:1 and small group support to students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, and other challenging behaviours. Your role will involve creating an environment that fosters learning, personal growth, and social skills development, while acting as a positive role model through sports and physical activity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEND, helping them access the curriculum and improve their social and emotional skills.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to implement individualised support plans and strategies.
  • Assist with behaviour management, de-escalating challenging situations and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Use your background in sport to engage students in physical activities, improving their confidence, teamwork, and well-being.
  • Set a positive example for students, demonstrating resilience, respect, and dedication.
  • Support the wider school community, contributing to the development of a positive, inclusive environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience working with children, either in a school, coaching, or youth development setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a passion for supporting young people.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours in a calm and empathetic manner.
  • A genuine interest in supporting children with ASC, SEMH, ADHD, and other SEND needs.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly in managing ASC, SEMH, ADHD, or challenging behaviour.
  • Experience in a coaching, mentoring, or leadership role within a sports or youth development context.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and interventions.
  • A background in physical education, sports coaching, or related fields.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
