About Us:
An inclusive primary school dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment for every child, including those with special educational needs. We believe in creating an atmosphere where all students can thrive, both academically and personally. We are currently looking for a committed and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to work closely with a child in Year 1 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting a child with ASC, ensuring they can access learning and participate fully in school life. Your key responsibilities will include:
-
One-on-One Support: Provide tailored one-to-one support to a child with ASC, ensuring they can engage with classroom activities and feel confident in their learning environment.
-
Supporting Social and Emotional Development: Use positive reinforcement strategies to support the child’s social interactions, helping them build relationships with peers and teachers. You’ll work on developing their communication and emotional regulation skills.
-
Individualized Learning Plans: Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement specific learning strategies outlined in the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Adapt tasks as needed to support the child’s learning style and sensory needs.
-
Behavioral Support: Support the child in managing any challenging behaviors linked to their ASC, using strategies such as structured routines, visual aids, and social stories to help reduce anxiety and support self-regulation.
-
Communication Support: Assist with the development of communication skills, including the use of visual communication aids, social stories, or speech and language strategies. Encourage and support non-verbal communication if applicable.
-
Promote Inclusion: Ensure that the child is included in all classroom activities, helping to create an inclusive environment where the child feels accepted and valued alongside their peers.
-
Collaboration with Professionals: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals (e.g., speech and language therapists or occupational therapists) to ensure consistent and effective support for the child.
-
Monitoring and Feedback: Track the child’s progress, keeping records of their achievements and areas where additional support may be needed. Provide feedback to the class teacher and SENCO, contributing to the child’s ongoing development.
