Job Advert: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Location: Bacup
Position: Full-time
Salary: £12.90 - £14
Start Date: January 2025

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and proactive Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our vibrant team and support our students with a range of learning needs.

The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting children with diverse needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and physical or sensory disabilities. You will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to help implement individualized education plans and ensure all children have access to a rich and fulfilling education. The role will involve 1:1 support, both within the classroom and outside of the classroom in intervention rooms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with SEN
  • Assist in delivering tailored learning activities in line with students' IEPs
  • Support students in developing social, emotional, and academic skills
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and confidence among students
  • Observe and record student progress, sharing insights with teachers and SENCO
  • Work collaboratively with other teaching assistants, teachers, and parents
  • Support students during break times and lunchtime as required
  • Help with the preparation and adaptation of learning resources

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children with SEN (in a classroom or similar setting)
  • A compassionate and patient approach to working with young people
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A good understanding of a range of Special Educational Needs and strategies for support
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to learn
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
