Job Advert: SEMH Support Specialist (Classroom-Based)
Are you a dedicated and compassionate professional with experience in probation services, looking to make a difference in young lives? We are seeking a skilled individual to support pupils aged 6–11 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a classroom setting.
About the Role:
- Position: SEMH Support Specialist
- Location: Blackburn (BB1)
- Contract: Full-Time
- Start Date: January 2025
- Age Group: 6–11 years
This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils to support their behaviour, emotional well-being, and social development. You will be integral in helping them thrive in an educational environment through tailored strategies and interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom.
- Implement a range of strategies to manage and improve behaviour.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils to help them develop social and emotional skills.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to create a consistent and nurturing environment.
- Monitor and report on pupil progress, adapting approaches as needed.
About You:
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience in probation services or a related field.
- A strong understanding of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges in children.
- Proven experience in supporting behaviour management using a variety of strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
