Science Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme
Teaching Personnel is seeking a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position available immediately, running until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role depending on performance.
Role Overview
This role is ideal for a science graduate looking to gain first-hand experience in a school environment, particularly those considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, or science communication. The successful candidate will support students in their learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, working closely with teachers to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students one-to-one and in small groups, particularly those who need additional help in understanding scientific concepts.
- Assisting in the delivery of science lessons, helping to explain challenging topics and ensuring all students remain engaged.
- Preparing practical experiments and resources, ensuring all materials are available and safe to use.
- Working alongside teachers to develop tailored learning strategies for students with different learning needs.
- Supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) or those who require additional academic guidance.
- Helping to monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Encouraging students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in science.
- Assisting with behaviour management in the classroom and promoting a positive learning environment.
Candidate Requirements:
- A degree in a Science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field – 2:2 or above preferred).
- A passion for science education and an interest in supporting students' academic progress.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain scientific concepts in an accessible way.
- The ability to work well within a team and take initiative when supporting students.
- Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, laboratory demonstrations) is beneficial but not essential.
Salary & Benefits:
- Weekly pay between £419.25 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
