Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time role is available immediately and will run until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position based on performance.

Role Overview

This position is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in an educational setting, particularly those considering careers in educational psychology, teaching, or mental health support. The role involves working closely with students who require additional academic or emotional support, helping them to access learning and develop essential skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students one-to-one and in small groups, particularly those with additional learning needs, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, or special educational needs (SEN).
  • Assisting teachers in the delivery of lessons, ensuring that all students remain engaged and supported.
  • Helping students with behaviour management, emotional regulation, and confidence-building.
  • Working with the school’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and pastoral team to implement individual support plans.
  • Observing and monitoring student progress, providing feedback to staff, and contributing to tailored intervention strategies.
  • Assisting with classroom management, lesson preparation, and the creation of learning materials.
  • Encouraging students to develop independent learning skills and promoting a positive attitude towards education.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology (2:2 or above preferred).
  • A strong interest in working with young people and supporting their academic and emotional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and adapt to the needs of different students.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, youth work, voluntary roles) is beneficial but not essential.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Weekly pay between £419.25 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
