Teaching Assistant with SEMH Experience – Tameside
A secondary school in Tameside is seeking a Teaching Assistant with SEMH experience to work with students who require additional support in managing their emotional and mental health needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access the curriculum and engage in learning.
- Assist students with behaviour management, implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and improve concentration.
- Collaborate with teachers and the SEN team to create and implement individualised learning plans for students with SEMH.
- Monitor student progress and help develop personal growth, focusing on both academic and emotional development.
- Support students in building essential social skills, managing anxiety, and improving self-esteem.
- Work with outside agencies (e.g., school counsellors or psychologists) to provide holistic support for students.
- Actively participate in creating a safe, nurturing environment where students feel supported and valued.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with SEMH students, SEN, or challenging behaviour in a school or care setting.
- A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
- Experience in youth work, education, psychology, or a related field is desirable.
- A calm and resilient approach, able to manage challenging situations with professionalism and understanding.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
