Teaching Assistant with SEMH Experience – Tameside

A secondary school in Tameside is seeking a Teaching Assistant with SEMH experience to work with students who require additional support in managing their emotional and mental health needs. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access the curriculum and engage in learning.
• Assist students with behaviour management, implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and improve concentration.
• Collaborate with teachers and the SEN team to create and implement individualised learning plans for students with SEMH.
• Monitor student progress and help develop personal growth, focusing on both academic and emotional development.
• Support students in building essential social skills, managing anxiety, and improving self-esteem.
• Work with outside agencies (e.g., school counsellors or psychologists) to provide holistic support for students.
• Actively participate in creating a safe, nurturing environment where students feel supported and valued.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience working with SEMH students, SEN, or challenging behaviour in a school or care setting.
• A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
• Experience in youth work, education, psychology, or a related field is desirable.
• A calm and resilient approach, able to manage challenging situations with professionalism and understanding.
