The Role

As a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils and teaching staff across the Science department (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), primarily within Key Stages 3 and 4. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with small groups of students or individuals who need additional help understanding scientific concepts.

  • Assisting pupils in practical lessons, helping them with experiments and developing their lab skills.

  • Providing tailored academic support to students with lower prior attainment or additional learning needs.

  • Helping students develop revision strategies, prepare for assessments, and improve their exam technique.

  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school expectations and reinforcing a positive learning environment.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff to track student progress and implement intervention strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree in a Science-related subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or similar).

  • A passion for science education and the ability to explain scientific ideas in an engaging and accessible way.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with secondary-aged students.

  • Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach to classroom support.

  • Previous experience working with young people (e.g., mentoring, tutoring, youth work) is highly beneficial but not essential.

  • A desire to develop professionally and contribute to a successful and supportive department.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive weekly pay of £446.90 to £500, dependent on experience.

  • Full-time, term-time role in a welcoming and inclusive school community.

  • Structured school-based experience ideal for aspiring teachers.

  • Access to Teaching Personnel’s CPD Academy for professional development.

  • A potential pathway into a school-based teacher training programme.

  • Opportunity to make a real difference in the academic journey of students.
