Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time in Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a motivated and compassionate Psychology Graduate to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Levenshulme as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. This full-time role begins in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of being made permanent based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 and £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Pastoral teams to support students with a range of learning and emotional needs. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent Psychology graduate interested in applying their knowledge in an educational setting and gaining experience that could lead to a future career in teaching, educational psychology, or mental health support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges
  • Assist in developing tailored learning plans to meet the individual needs of students
  • Support students in the classroom by helping them engage with the curriculum and understand subject content
  • Work alongside teachers to identify students who may need additional emotional and academic support
  • Help with the development of social and emotional skills, offering guidance and support to students in need
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of intervention programs aimed at supporting students’ emotional wellbeing and academic progress
  • Provide feedback to the SENCo and Pastoral team on student progress, ensuring appropriate support strategies are in place
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to create a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports the needs of all students
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour, ensuring students stay on task and are engaged in their learning
  • Support students in preparing for exams and assignments, providing strategies to reduce stress and improve focus

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related field is essential
  • A passion for working with young people and supporting their emotional and academic development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • A patient and empathetic approach to working with students facing learning and emotional challenges
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and contribute to the school’s supportive learning environment
  • Prior experience working with children or young people, particularly in an educational or mental health setting, is desirable but not essential
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond to different student needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
