Key Responsibilities:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with students and staff to support the academic and emotional development of young learners, particularly those with additional learning needs or behavioural challenges. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students on a one-to-one or small group basis, particularly those with special educational needs, mental health challenges, or behavioural issues
  • Assisting the SENCo and pastoral team in developing and implementing personalised support plans for students
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional well-being, using psychological insights to guide interventions and strategies
  • Working alongside teachers in the classroom to ensure students are engaged and supported in their learning
  • Providing tailored support for students who may struggle with emotional regulation, concentration, or anxiety

  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers and other staff to ensure ongoing support and development
  • Assisting with behaviour management across the school, working with students to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Supporting the wider school community, including participating in meetings with parents and carers, and contributing to the school's pastoral care system
  • Helping students prepare for exams, offering study support and stress management techniques

What We’re Looking For:

  • A recent graduate with a degree in Psychology (or a related subject)
  • A keen interest in educational psychology, mental health, and supporting young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • An empathetic, patient, and supportive approach, with the ability to adapt strategies to meet individual needs
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly in a school or support setting, is desirable but not essential
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A passion for working with young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning

Why This Role?

This is a fantastic opportunity for Psychology graduates who are interested in applying their knowledge in a real-world setting, especially those considering a future career in educational psychology, teaching, or mental health support. You will gain valuable hands-on experience in a secondary school environment, working closely with students who will benefit from your understanding and expertise.

  • Weekly pay between £419.25 and £500, depending on experience and qualifications
