Teacher of Mathematics – Newport

Exceptional Opportunity | Temp-to-Perm Contract

Location: Newport
Salary: From £157.66 per day (paid in accordance with teacher pay scale)
Start Date: May 2025
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent


The Opportunity

Teaching Personnel is proud to partner with a respected English-medium secondary school in the heart of Newport to recruit a talented and driven Teacher of Mathematics. This welcoming and forward-thinking school, with approximately 680 pupils aged 11–18, is committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering a supportive, ambitious learning environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mathematics specialist who is passionate about nurturing numerical fluency and problem-solving skills in young people, while playing a key role in the continued development of the Mathematics department.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in line with the national curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5.

  • Differentiate content to support the progress of learners of all abilities and backgrounds.

  • Use a range of assessment strategies to monitor student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.

  • Create a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to high levels of engagement and achievement.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance departmental planning and contribute to whole-school initiatives.

  • Manage behaviour effectively, maintaining high standards of conduct and respect within the classroom.


Person Specification

We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.

  • Proven experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level (including through placements, if applicable).

  • Confidence in delivering lessons up to and including Key Stage 5.

  • Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills.

  • A proactive and reflective approach to teaching practice.

  • The ability to manage and support pupils with a range of behavioural needs.
