Level 3 Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support for Pupil with ASD)

Location: Blackburn

Start date: November 2024

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Level 3 Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Year 2 at a mainstream primary school in Blackburn. The pupil is non-verbal, requires personal care, and uses PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to communicate.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide tailored 1:1 support to the pupil, ensuring their individual needs are met in the classroom and during activities.

- Assist with personal care routines.

- Support the pupil's communication through the use of PECs and Makaton.

- Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and interventions to promote the pupil’s learning, development, and inclusion.

- Foster a positive and nurturing learning environment.

- Work alongside other staff and professionals to ensure the pupil’s emotional, social, and educational progress.

Requirements:

- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

- Proven experience working with children with ASD, ideally in a 1:1 support role.

- Familiarity with PECs and Makaton communication systems.

- Experience providing personal care to children with additional needs.

- Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children with special educational needs.

- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and external professionals.

Desirable:

- Previous experience in a primary school setting.

- Knowledge of strategies to support children with communication difficulties.

Working Hours: Full-time, term-time only.

Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
