We are seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our dedicated team at one of our local schools in Southampton, a friendly and inclusive primary school. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to support the learning and development of children, providing tailored support to individuals and small groups, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN) or other additional learning needs.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a positive learning environment and support children in achieving their full potential. You will play a key role in supporting children’s academic progress and social development within a nurturing and inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students, including those with SEN or additional learning needs.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of classroom activities.
  • Support students with personal care, where appropriate, including feeding, toileting, and dressing.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to monitor progress and help differentiate tasks to suit individual learning needs.
  • Use effective behavior management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Assist with the use of assistive technologies and resources to support students’ learning.
  • Help children develop social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
  • Support in the creation of individualized learning plans and ensure targets are being met.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports for student progress meetings.
  • Liaise with parents and other professionals where necessary.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar educational support role, ideally within a primary school setting.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities.
  • Good understanding of child development and the primary school curriculum.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A caring, patient, and nurturing approach to working with children.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures and commitment to promoting the welfare of children.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in supporting students with specific SEN (e.g., autism, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties).
  • Training in additional educational support, such as first aid or behavior management strategies.
  • Experience with the use of assistive technology

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
