English Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Chorlton-cum-Hardy
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This is a full-time position, starting immediately and running until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance.
Role Overview
This is an ideal opportunity for a recent English graduate who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a secondary school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, supporting them in their English studies and helping them to develop their literacy skills and confidence.
This role is particularly suited to individuals considering a career in teaching, tutoring, or educational support, providing valuable classroom experience alongside experienced educators.
Key Responsibilities:

Assisting in English lessons, providing one-to-one and small group support to help students improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

Supporting students with GCSE English preparation, helping them develop analytical skills, essay-writing techniques, and exam strategies.

Helping to deliver engaging lessons that inspire a love of literature and language.

Working with students who may require additional support in literacy, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL) or Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Assisting teachers in planning and preparing lesson resources, adapting materials to suit individual student needs.

Encouraging students to develop critical thinking and communication skills through discussions, debates, and structured activities.

Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers, ensuring tailored support is given where necessary.

Helping to maintain a positive and structured learning environment, encouraging students to engage with texts and develop their appreciation of English literature.

Offering pastoral support, acting as a mentor for students who may need extra guidance.
Candidate Requirements:

A degree in English, Literature, or a related subject.

A strong understanding of the secondary school English curriculum.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
A passion for education and literacy, with a desire to support students in achieving their full potential.

A patient and supportive approach to working with students of varying abilities.

Some experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, voluntary work) is desirable but not essential.

The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SEN specialists, and support staff.
Salary & Benefits:

Weekly pay between £446.90 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
