Behavioural Support Worker
Job description
Behaviour Support Worker – East Leeds
Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed Behaviour Support Worker to support pupils in specialist provisions and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) across East Leeds and surrounding areas. This full-time role is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting impact on young people who require additional support due to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Our partner provisions cater to pupils in primary, secondary, and occasionally post-16 settings, who are unable to access mainstream education for various reasons, including exclusions, SEMH challenges, medical needs, or personal circumstances such as pregnancy and young motherhood. Many students also have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
Your Role: As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will help create a structured, positive environment that allows students to engage with learning. A crucial aspect of this role is managing challenging behaviour with confidence, consistency, and a proactive approach. You will collaborate with staff and students to implement behaviour strategies, deliver tailored interventions, and provide essential pastoral support to encourage personal growth and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Implement and support behaviour management strategies to address SEMH needs and promote positive engagement.
-
Work closely with students, both individually and in small groups, delivering targeted interventions for self-regulation, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
-
Provide support in areas such as self-esteem, anger management, and reintegration into an educational setting.
-
Assist students in improving their attendance, punctuality, and ability to transition back into structured learning.
-
Follow guidance from senior staff, SENCOs, and pastoral leads to ensure interventions align with each student’s individual needs.
-
Establish a calm, structured learning environment while enforcing behaviour expectations fairly and consistently.
About You: We are looking for resilient, compassionate individuals with experience supporting young people in an educational or community setting. A background in Youth Work, Social Care, or similar roles would be highly beneficial. Above all, you must have the confidence and skills to manage challenging behaviour effectively and help students re-engage with education in a meaningful way.
Essential Requirements:
-
Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour.
-
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate situations effectively.
-
Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training).
-
A commitment to supporting vulnerable young people in specialist educational settings.
-
Willingness to travel to other areas, including Garforth, Cross Gates, Seacroft, Wetherby, and surrounding LS postcodes.
