Teaching Personnel is looking for SEMH Support Workers to work with students who struggle with behavioural challenges, trauma, anxiety, and disengagement from education. Many of these pupils have Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require specialist support to build resilience, develop coping strategies, and re-engage with learning.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in education, youth work, social care, or mental health support who are keen to work in primary, secondary, or specialist settings. Whether you’re looking for long-term roles or prefer flexible working options, this role offers a rewarding and varied experience.

What the Role Involves

As an SEMH Support Worker, you’ll play a vital role in helping students manage their emotions, develop confidence, and engage positively in education. You’ll work one-on-one or in small groups, offering tailored support based on individual needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Implement personalised behaviour and emotional support strategies to help students self-regulate and thrive in the classroom.
Provide mentoring and pastoral support, helping students navigate social and emotional challenges.
Assist with reintegration plans for students returning to school after exclusions or prolonged absences.
Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to create an environment that supports positive learning and emotional well-being.
Encourage resilience, self-esteem, and independence through structured interventions and targeted support.
De-escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively, following best practices in behaviour management.

Why Work with Teaching Personnel?

Local Placements – Work in schools across Batley, Dewsbury, Birstall, Heckmondwike, and neighbouring areas.
Flexible Options – Choose full-time, part-time, or supply roles to suit your lifestyle.
Variety of Settings – Gain experience in mainstream schools, SEN provisions, and alternative education settings.
Training & Development – Access CPD courses on SEMH, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed approaches.
Career Progression – Build strong connections in schools and explore opportunities for long-term or permanent roles.

Who We’re Looking For

We want dedicated individuals with experience in SEMH support, behaviour mentoring, or youth work. You’ll need to be calm, patient, and adaptable, with a strong ability to build relationships and manage behaviour positively.

Preferred Experience & Training:

Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour intervention training (or willingness to complete training).
Mental Health First Aid or experience in trauma-informed practice.
✅ Experience working in SEN, alternative provisions, or pastoral roles.

Essential Qualities:

✔ Ability to build trust and establish positive relationships with students.
