Behaviour Support Assistant
Job description
Behavioural Support Assistant
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioural Support Assistant to join the team at a client secondary school based in Old Trafford.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, educational psychologists, and other support staff to provide individualised behavioural interventions and strategies for students who require additional support. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.
This position will start after the February half term on Monday 24th, and run full-time until the end of the academic year (July 2025).
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop and implement behaviour intervention plans for students with complex needs.
• Provide one-to-one support to students in the classroom setting, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their behaviour.
• Work closely with students to identify triggers for challenging behaviour and develop strategies to help them manage these situations.
• Liaise with external agencies, such as social services or health professionals, when necessary, to ensure that students receive the appropriate support.
• Contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment by promoting good behaviour and encouraging positive interactions between students.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and progress made with individual students.
• Attend regular team meetings and training sessions to keep up-to-date with best practices in behavioural support.
Requirements:
• A minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar role or setting, preferably within education. Experience supporting children or young adults with special educational needs (SEN) is desirable but not essential.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/carers, teachers, and external agencies is essential.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively when developing interventions for complex behaviour issues.
• Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude towards working with young people who may present challenging behaviours at times. A calm demeanour is essential in managing difficult situations effectively.
If you would be interested in making a positive difference to the lives of secondary students who are disengaged with education, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in the position.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
