Autism Support Worker - Primary School, Blackpool
Start Date: January 2025
Full-Time, Long-Term Role

Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Do you have the skills and dedication to make a real difference in their education journey? Teaching Personnel is excited to be recruiting for an Autism Support Worker to join a welcoming primary school in Blackpool.

The Role

As an Autism Support Worker, you will work 1:1 with a child in Key Stage 1 (KS1) diagnosed with autism, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning and thrive in a classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offering 1:1 assistance tailored to the individual needs of the pupil.
  • Implementing specific strategies to support the child’s communication, sensory, and social development.
  • Encouraging positive behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Supporting the pupil to engage in classroom activities and maintain focus.
  • Liaising with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s development.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Prior experience working with children with autism or in an SEN environment is essential.
  • Skills: Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the pupil’s needs.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton, is beneficial.
  • Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
