Graduate Special Educational Needs Assistant - September

We are currently partnering with a specialist SEN provision in Bolton dedicated to providing an enriching and supportive environment for students with autism and complex learning difficulties.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Autism Support HLTA to join our partner school's team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to support the holistic development and educational progress of students with special educational needs. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of young people with autism and complex learning difficulties.

This position is ideal for graduates seeking hands-on experience in a supportive educational setting, where they can develop their skills and knowledge while contributing positively to the lives of students with learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support: Assist students with autism and complex learning difficulties in their academic and social development, ensuring they remain engaged and supported throughout their educational journey.

  • Personalized Learning: Implement personalized learning plans under the guidance of the teacher, adapting strategies to meet the unique needs of each student. Use visual supports and alternative communication methods, such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) cards, to aid understanding and expression.

  • Alternative Communication: Utilize alternative communication methods, including PECS cards, sign language, and assistive technology, to support students in developing their communication skills. Work with speech and language therapists to implement individualized communication strategies.

  • Vocational Training Support: Assist in the delivery of vocational training programs that prepare students for future employment opportunities. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences that develop practical skills and encourage students to explore different career paths.

  • Daily Living Assistance: Provide support with activities of daily living and personal care as required, ensuring the well-being and comfort of each student.

  • Collaborative Environment: Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and growth.

  • Dynamic Engagement: Develop innovative and dynamic ways to keep students motivated and engaged, ensuring that learning is accessible and enjoyable for all.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: Experience working in a Special Educational Needs setting is desirable, especially within a specialist school. However, we welcome applications from all backgrounds with a passion for SEN support.

  • Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, and empathy, with a commitment to supporting the development of students with autism.

  • References and Checks: Suitable references and an Enhanced DBS certificate (or eligibility to apply) are required.

Role Details

  • Hours: Full-time position, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
