Job description

This school can cater for young people between the ages of 4-19 but currently only have young people up to the age of 16. They currently have 148 students attending who all have EHCP’s (Education Health Care Plans). Most of the students have Autism or Mild Learning Difficulties but will also have other needs such as sensory impairments along with speech and language difficulties.

They seek to provide a friendly, caring environment for all children to reach their potential through high quality teaching and learning that supports the development of life-long learning skills, self-esteem and celebrates individual success. They have recently finished a multimillion pound refurbishment and as a result, have excellent on site facilities such as a interactive sensory room.

Senior Leadership appreciate this role can be challenging and have a huge focus on staff wellbeing, including all expenses paid dance lessons after school once a week.

Duties

  • Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programs, including social, health, physical, hygiene, and first aid and welfare matters.
  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, being aware of, and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • Prepare classroom as directed for lessons, clear afterwards, and assist with the display of pupils work.
  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behavior, reporting difficulties as appropriate

Person Specification – essential

  • Experience of working and supporting children with Additional Learning /Special Educational Needs
  • Knowledge and understanding of Additional Learning and Special Educational Needs
  • Understanding and compassion of a young person’s Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • GCSE Maths and English
  • NVQ Level 2 or above

  • Ability to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (Moderate to Complex Learning Difficulties)
  • Empathy with all children
  • Commitment to work as part of a class team
  • Ability to work under instruction and use own initiative

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
