Teaching Assistant
Job description
This school is based on the outskirts of Frome and provides education for approximately 80 pupils who have special educational needs (SEN). All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and they have a very wide range of abilities within their pupil population.
Each pupil’s needs are carefully and individually evaluated, so that within the context of their well-developed and profoundly personalised curriculum, all pupils can aspire to reach exceptional standards. You may be asked to support students with some of the following needs:
- Autism (ASC)
- Moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD & SLD)
- Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
A lot of students have additional difficulties such as speech and language impairments, physical disabilities as well as anxiety.
Over recent years they have completed major updates to learning spaces, specialist resource areas and the playground. They have excellent on site facilities including a Forest School and sensory room. Post 16 students are heavily involved in community work and often make and sell food on the schools own food van.
Staff are committed to work as a team to provide the opportunity for a specialist education, enabling all children to develop a full range of academic, functional and independent skills.
If you have enthusiasm, energy and openness to working with children and young adults with learning disabilities and feel like a challenge then this might be the right opportunity for you.
To be considered for this role, it is essential you have experience working with children or adults that have special needs or mental health difficulties. We will also consider applicants with personal experience in this area.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate they are flexible, positive, calm, patient and empathic and who will easily fit in with a skilled, enthusiastic and hardworking team.
We have opportunities for full time, part time and flexible availability so please get in touch to discuss your experience further.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
