Job description

Job Title: Full-Time Support Worker – Alternative Provision
Location: Liverpool
Hours: Full-Time (Monday to Friday)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and dedication to support students with complex needs? We are looking for a Support Worker to join our committed team at a well-established alternative provision in Liverpool.

About the Role:

As a classroom Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping young people engage in education and personal development. You will work alongside teachers and other staff members to create a supportive, safe, and nurturing learning environment for students who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or present with behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students in the classroom.
  • Help manage challenging behaviours in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Implement trauma-informed strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with students to support their personal and academic growth.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies.

Essential Qualities and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly in an educational, care or youth work setting.
  • Strong knowledge or training in behaviour management techniques.
  • Understanding and application of trauma-informed practice.
  • Resilience, patience, and a calm approach to difficult situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work as part of a dynamic team.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mental health support.
  • Experience in an alternative provision, PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), or similar setting.
  • First Aid or Team Teach training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
