SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
A welcoming primary school in Winchester is on the lookout for two caring and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join their team. These roles are focused on supporting children in a Key Stage 2 class with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the ideal candidates will be passionate about making a real difference in the lives of these children.
About the Role: As an LSA, you’ll be supporting students with ASD in the classroom, helping them engage with lessons, and ensuring they are fully included in all school activities. You’ll be working alongside the class teacher to provide both academic and emotional support, helping the children learn and grow in a safe and positive environment. Being proactive is key, as you’ll need to encourage and support students, particularly when it comes to managing some challenging behaviours, in a calm and effective way.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting children one-to-one and in small groups
-
Assisting with delivering lessons tailored to individual needs
-
Helping to manage challenging behaviour in a positive and calm manner
-
Encouraging inclusion and social participation in class
-
Supporting students with their Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
-
Helping children develop independence and social skills
-
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to ensure the best outcomes for the students
About the School: This school in Winchester is a lovely, inclusive place where everyone – staff and students alike – are supported and valued. The school is committed to creating a nurturing and positive environment where all children can thrive. It’s a great place to work, with a strong focus on well-being and personal development for both students and staff.
What you can expect:
-
A warm, friendly, and supportive team of staff
-
Opportunities for professional development and growth
-
A positive and inclusive working environment
-
A school culture that focuses on the well-being and progress of every student
-
A team that’s passionate about making sure every child has the support they need to succeed
Who We’re Looking For: We’re after someone who’s passionate about supporting children with ASD and who can bring a proactive and caring approach to the role. You don’t need to have years of experience – just a kind and patient attitude, the ability to handle challenging situations calmly, and a real passion for helping children with special educational needs.
Ideally, you’ll also:
-
Have some experience working with children with ASD (but if you don’t, don’t worry – we’re happy to provide training!)
-
Be flexible and adaptable in your approach
-
Have great communication skills
-
Be enthusiastic, compassionate, and ready to make a difference!
