Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Weekly Salary: £420 to £450

Contract: Temporary

Teaching Personnel are seeking a number of Teaching Assistant for an OFSTED 'Outstanding' specialist school in Tamworth, providing exceptional education and support for children and young people aged 7-18 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and associated conditions. The school is committed to creating a dynamic, inclusive environment where every student can thrive. We are looking for passionate and energetic individuals, particularly those with a background in sports coaching or recent sports graduates, to join the team as SEN Teaching Assistants.

Job Description:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will leverage your passion for sports and physical activity to support the educational and emotional development of our students. This role is ideal for sports coaches or graduates eager to make a meaningful impact in an educational setting. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the classroom teacher in delivering tailored educational programs that incorporate physical activity and sports, engaging students in a way that suits their individual needs.
  • Supporting students aged 7-18 with SEMH, autism, and associated conditions in both academic and physical activities, helping to build their confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Encouraging participation in physical education and sports, adapting activities to meet the diverse abilities of the students.
  • Utilizing sports and movement to help students manage their emotions, improve behavior, and develop positive relationships.
  • Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies.
  • Helping to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and motivated.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the holistic development of each student.

Requirements:

  • A background in sports coaching, sports science, physical education, or a related field.
  • A strong passion for working with children and young people with SEN, particularly those with SEMH and autism.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to engage and inspire students through physical activity and sports.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to the individual needs of each student.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with children or young people in a coaching, mentoring, or educational capacity.
  • Knowledge of SEN, particularly SEMH and autism, or experience working with individuals with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in sports coaching, physical education, or a related discipline.
